May children and youth across BC come to know, love and serve the Lord Jesus Christ.
John and his wife, Joy, became Christians as young folk. They continued serving in their local church for the first 19 years of marriage and became involved with Awana Clubs there in 1967. After attending Bible College together, their missionary career began with Drive-In-Ministries, a film evangelism organization, in 1979. John and Joy later came to British Columbia to serve as the first BC Awana Missionaries. After 20 years of missionary service they began their retirement in the year 2000. Joy died that same year.
John met Mary met through a Bible Study group picnic and they were married in 2002. Mary is currently employed part-time at New Life Christian Counseling in Langley.
Together, John and Mary have served in area Awana Clubs as Commanders and as T&T Directors since 2002. They joined the BC Awana Ministry Team, serving with the Fehrs who had been a part of the Skelton’s BC ministry team for many years before.
After the Fehrs stepped down as BC Awana Missionaries at the end of 2010, John and Mary became the Interim Awana Missionaries for BC. This is a role that is supported by prayer and financial donations from churches, families and individuals who desire to be partners in reaching boys, girls and families for Jesus Christ.
The Skeltons are available for assisting churches in establishing Awana Clubs, conducting leadership training, encouraging club leadership and visiting Awana Clubs in BC churches. They organize and coordinate interclub activities such as Awana Bible Quiz Meets, AwanaGames™, Sparks-A-Rama, Awana Scholarship Camp and annual province-wide Ministry Conferences.
John and Mary consider it a privilege to encourage the children and youth ministry leaders of your church and to present Awana and its available resources to your church leadership.
